Tamara Vandendool - Author, Director, & Disability Consultant

Tamara Vandendool

Author, Director, & Disability Consultant

Tamara is a self-started businesswoman, musician, athlete, medical consultant, and disability advocate. Her experiences and expertise cross many fields and challenges the conception of what disability means. She has an extensive background in healthcare, research, psychology, and counselling. After her foray into the sciences, she decided to change her career focus to the arts and follow her true passion. Music is the most influential part of her journey. As a professional live and studio musician since the age of 9, her performances have crossed boundaries from classical, to pop/rock, to folk, and continues to evolve. As a music teacher for the last 15 years, she has fostered a passion to work with young musicians (especially those with disabilities) to develop musicality and challenges every student’s beliefs of what they are capable. Tamara has been legally blind since birth, and lost the majority of her remaining vision in her early teens. She has a number of other disabilities that challenge everyday life.

She champions the importance of early intervention for children with disabilities. She believes that having a creative outlet for frustrations is imperative for young people, and doubly so for those who have disabilities. Her personal motto is that everyone has the ability to succeed if given the right tools and opportunities. All you need is creativity, patience, and a willingness to look at problems from a new perspective.
